I will not deny Zendaya the honor of playing Aaliyah in a made for TV movie. People argue that she isnt black. Yes she is. Shes just on the bright side. For some reason I dont have an issue with that at all. I do have a problem with (and for some time now), Zoe Saldaña being casted as Nina Simone in the upcoming biopic Nina (coming soon, in theaters). I have MAJOR issues with that. People could also argue that Ms. Saldaña isnt black, but she is technically. She is full blooded Dominican and Puerto Rican with Hatian and Lebanese roots. She is an Afro-Latin woman essentially. My problem is the black face (to turn Zoe Ninas chocolate complexion) and prosthetics (to make Zoes nose bigger and wider). There are many other actresses that would have been perfect for that role. They cast roles for talent, not looks, but India.Arie, Mary J. Blige, or even Viola Davis would have brought Nina to back to life in that role. Maybe I need to see the finish product to judge the film, but Im so biased. I dont like Zoe as Nina until and IF she proves me wrong. She has to come hard, because Im a big jazz and even bigger Nina fan. She was SO important to music in the 20th century. Dont mess up Zoe! I will come for you on the blogs baby girl. Lol
