I wish I could attend: Tri-Count-Teas, Some of you may already be aware of this event tomorrow (Thursday), but just in case you’re not, William Ayers will be speaking at Elgin Community College from 12:30 – 1:45 PM in the Building B Community Room at ECC’s Spartan Drive Campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. His presentation is open to the public. I’ve spoken with the contact listed on the ECC website, Professor David Zacker, about this event in order to inquire about who was paying for Ayers and if there were going to be other speakers in their ‘series’ to offset the despicable Ayers. Because ECC is getting so much pushback relative to his appearance, Prof. Zacker referred me to their public relations person, Jeff Julian. Julian confirmed that he was receiving a stipend for the appearance and (sheepishly) acknowledged that it was being paid by our tax dollars (for those of us in the ECC taxing district). To my question about featuring speakers who don’t qualify as domestic terrorists and who also advocate conservative values and principles, he only indicated that there will be upcoming speakers with opposing points of view. He did not, however, share who they might be nor what he defines as ‘opposing’ views. Though it’s certainly the school’s right to present their choice of speakers, one would hope that if they’re desire is to feature advocates of collectivism, that they would at least avoid those who are so morally depraved.
