I wish I could post this to all the people who told me that I was totally off my rocker with both my kids when I was trying to teach them to put their toys away at 6 months old. My 18mo old son now puts toys away as he finishes. I dont even have to tell him half the time. He got playdough out, played with it, and put it away before I even realized it the other day. This morning, trains...then the books... then the fisher price little people. I stopped monitoring Aurora at 4 and she fell off that wagon, interestingly enough her little brother is getting her back on track! There is great reason to explain fully, to demonstrate older skills, and to expect proper behavior early on. They are SO smart and soak up SO much! we had the same reaction to time outs when we started them a few months back (at one). But he rarely hits in comparison to what I see in SO many children!
