I wish people would quit releasing balloons into the air. It does NO good for the environment. I was walking on the beach yesterday and spotted a large SpongeBob mylar balloon. As I was picking it up to put it into a baggie to throw away later, the strings hanging from it started to tangle up on my feet and legs. Not only do sea creatures try to eat this garbage, not being able to differentiate it from real food, but I can only imagine how many birds get tangled up and unable to get out of it. And yes... it is horrifying to see a pelican hanging from a tall palm tree, caught up in fishing line still alive. :( :(
