I wish to take a minute to pause and offer a minute or two of digital silence here in gratitude to Denise Gainey for sharing the remarkable story of the last months in the life of her mother, Heavy D, and in honor of her death. Denises journals of the last days and months of her mothers life have been brilliant. They were powerful, moving, valuable to all of us who have or will deal with the reality of life - that would be all of us. I am very grateful these amazing chronicles were helpful to Denise as well, as has been the support of members of the group through this passage. Denises portrayal of her relationship with her mother, her grappling with her decline and death were wonderful, uplifting, loving, ultimately heartbreaking. A classic story of love and life, I think we all knew there could only be one ending. Denise honored her love of her mother - and her mothers love for her - until the very last second of her life, and I am sure, beyond that. What a wonderful world this would be if all children and all mothers shared this love for one another. As a hospice volunteer I believe death is a very personal and private thing, I would not wish to intrude on Denises grieving in any way. Death is not, for me, a time of gifts. I have told Denise to let us know if she needs anything, otherwise I will leave her alone, something I imagine she very much needs. She has seen and read your many posts of love and support. Lisa Dingle, a close friend of Denise, is going to post the name of a charity that Dorothy loved, people are certainly free to contribute to it if they wish, not if they cant or do not wish to. I well understand that many of you have very limited resources. The real gift has been from Denise to all of us, and I will be eternally thankful to her for this great tale of the heart. Denise has written the greatest imaginable chapter in the life of this extraordinary community, she has uplifted and changed all of us, shown us the true meaning of grace and courage. Every word she has written has been authentic and from the soul. I cant imagine a better way to leave the world than with someone like Denise by my side. Dorothy will certainly live on here in our hearts and spirits, the Space People did her good.
