I witnessed a dog dragging this deer down alongside a Crawford - TopicsExpress

I witnessed a dog dragging this deer down alongside a Crawford County Rd on Wednesday. The dog killed her by pulling the entrails out of her back end. She bled out in minutes. I chased the dog away but it was too late. The doe had a full udder of milk. Her fawn is lying in the woods somewhere, waiting.....to die. Due to technical difficulties it took two days to get Pa. Game Commission to investigate. It didnt matter, it was too late anyway. Point being, people do not realize what their dogs are doing when they let them loose. This particular dog belonged to an elderly lady in her eighties. She lives with her nephew who works all day. She is not capable of walking the dog so she lets him go when he wants out. She did say he brought home a few woodchucks. People consider woodchucks a nuisance and mistakenly believe it us o.k. if the dogs kills them. Sadly, the dog that will kill a woodchuck will chase down and kill any wildlife, including a doe with a new fawn. No one loves dogs more than I do but any dog is capable of doing this, given the chance. Dogs need to be supervised by their owners. On a leash when off their property. This particular dog is an older Golden Retriever with a sweet personality. It is quite possible the dog will be confiscated and destroyed for killing wildlife. The elderly lady will lose her best friend. She sat down and wept when the game warden told her what the dog had done. A sad situation all the way around, for the deer, the fawn, the dog owner and the dog. It didnt need to happen. Im sorry, this is not pretty or entertaining but it happens way too often. We need to educate people to keep their dogs under control at all times.
