I woke up at 5:30, late for me, and planned my whole day. I’d go to the gym for an hour, then stop at the post office and finally do a change of address, then go to my apartment that’s for sale and get the mail. After that, I could swing over to Bed, Bath and Beyond and get some lightbulbs. It was a great plan, all things I really need to get done. So what did I do? I made myself a mug of tea, pulled on some clothes, and went upstairs and wrote the whole scene when Olivia meets Ray. It didn’t come out as I thought it would — and I love when it does that!! I was going to have Ray a bit rough, so Olivia decides to stay in the house to protect young Elise. But no. Ray is a good guy and he asks Olivia to stay. It was a subtle thing but it set up his character. I laughed at your replies about the title name. My idea of Shattered Silk would be a time travel. Find an old dress in a trunk, that sort of thing. Laura EM: I was so worried about how the man who runs my building was going to lecture me about the boxes that I had esophagus spasms. Very painful! But he just sent the delivery men up to my apartment with the boxes on a cart. It was very easy and for once I didn’t get bawled out. No bad Jude — makes for a change. About my binders. I’ve written about them before. They have been a lifesaver! I print nearly everything out so it will fit into them, then cut and punch. They contain photos, floorplans, outlines, scene snippets. I’ll do some photos so you can see. I’m going to take them to RWA here in NY in July. Reinalyn and Laurie are going to stand guard so no one walks off with them. I have an odd question. It’s something Linda and I laugh about. She has to tell people terrible things, like that their book isn’t publishable, or in my case that I have to throw out half of the novel and do it over. But no matter how bad what she says is, people tell her thank you. As for me, I can say something like, “I’m very sorry, but I can’t talk on the phone right now,” and it will make people furious at me. Linda and I laugh about this so much that when I have to tell bad news to someone I ask her to do it for me. She does and they say “Thank you.” My question is which kind of person are you? Jude
