I wonder how long the United States can remain a viable democratic nation when it is clear that conservatives hate liberals (or anyone else for that matter) and the liberals return it in full. The clashes in Syria and the CAR dont look at all foreign in this envirnonment. When someone posts nothing but Tea Party statements that President Obama is some evil Communist Muslim (which he is neither) and that Jane Fonda will rot in Hell (clearly against Catholic doctrine to state that anyone is in hell especially for actions she has publically regretted) then we clearly have lost any civility. Likewise, liberals who view religious conservatives as an American Taliban are also intolerant of any religious observance in American public life. Either way, it is a recipe for the same intolerance of mass movements that have dominated human history. In the case of the United States, both the Left and the Right are dominated by the same motivations which is selfishness and self-absorbtion. The battle cries of tolerance, progressive and reason are little more than attempts to impose an anything goes lifestyle where personal responsibility does not exist. The same is very true, if not much more so, for the Right (they have their own proganda machine called Fox News) who have no sense of social responsibility which is why killing people overseas because the United States doesnt have to follow the Golden Rule but caring for its citizens (making sure there is universal health coverage) is godless socialism. I think I would rather be in the CAR, or soon if we dont (and I mean WE which includes me) shape up since the weather is nicer in Bangui than Bainbridge.
