I wonder if most people are like me in this -- I love to learn - TopicsExpress

I wonder if most people are like me in this -- I love to learn as long as its my idea. I dont like people forcing information on me. I think in part it might be pride but also in part I think that sometimes, even if the information is true, I might not able to deal with it yet. I see folks sometimes pushing esoteric brain candy on those who are still struggling with the basics, and then judging them for rejecting it. Well seriously, we need to have compassion -- does calculus even look like Math to a first grader? I started out with basic counting and worked my way up to differential equations through 15 years of pure hell. I dont send my kids differential equations to help them understand basic algebra. It would be ludicrous, it would serve only to confuse them and they would reject it as nonsense or lose hope. Should I then judge their POTENTIAL, their DEVOTION, and their hard WORK by their current inability to perceive this form of math? So why do I see people completely disregarding where others are at spiritually? Sometimes people will push something at me that I absolutely balk at and reject, especially if they are pushy, and especially if I dont know them. Does it mean I am not interested in truth? Certainly not! However, your desire for me to learn something, because it is important to you, doesnt mean I am ready for it. To call me stiff-necked is counterproductive and foolish. I look at their actions as the attempted hijacking of my walk in the Spirit. It is my experience that the Spirit leads us to where we need to go in the proper seasons, the Spirit waits until we have ears to hear and eyes to see. I dont mind people suggesting teachers to me, but I really dont like what I see out there with the impatience of some towards the ABSOLUTE NEED of new believers to take as much time as necessary to get firmly grounded in the basics. Thats what good parenting and good discipleship is about, doing the boring yet wonderful things in season with those who still need it. We should never try to schedule someone elses journey, or they will miss the wonderful things we got to see as we were led gently along.
