I wonder if proponents of the Washington Football Franchises - TopicsExpress

I wonder if proponents of the Washington Football Franchises name/logo ever ruminate on the fact that the term indicative of racist and pejorative connotations to Indigenous/Aboriginal Peoples would have probably never had the opportunity to be ascribed as such if various European nations decided against evoking Divine/Religious Right, manifest destiny predicated on superiority of the White/Spanish races and the doctrine of discovery, and exploiting said peoples for slave exchanges, resources, and entertainment/vehicles for conveying American identifiers, values and ideals. Granted, we showed these indigenous peoples gratitude by slaughtering them via multiple centuries of foreign epidemics, acts of brutality/insidious massacres adequately meeting several requirements for genocide, and forced removal from native lands purely in the name of Western Expansion and greed in both resources and power over those once seen as inferior, but theoretically free from the prison of discrimination and prejudice that inhibit harmonious social interaction today, given our multicultural society. Regardless of being positive or negative, the stereotypes backed by failure to acknowledge the full history of the associated peoples and color-blind racism still inherent in society contribute indirectly to the myriad social ills plaguing a majority of tribal nations, as well as rationalizing stereotypes ascribed to other groups in addition to providing the perverse and contradictory legislative system forced upon, and conducive to maintaining our lovely status quo and dominance. Its not the quantity of those offended that makes something inherently offensive, its the fact that it is on its face OFFENSIVE. Race is subjective, and no one experiences race the same way, no one.
