I wonder why the God of the universe was so emphatic about And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.? Matt 23:9 Though this is clearly meant in both title and function some are espousing the false position of father in Christians lives! Seems that the glaring error of Mark Hambys ministry and the Sheppardship movements gross error is being ignored. The obvious problem is that they love man honoring and an old testament pyramid models which both are condemned in the New Covenant scriptures. The tragedy I see is that the bodies of those abused by this doctrine litter the landscape while preachers ignore the evidence that man cannot be trusted to be placed between a man and his God. I am all for mentors and leaders that live the love and esteem of true brotherhood but so called Fathering is a man made doctrine with death as its fruit. Jesus warned against this when He said How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and you do not seek the glory that is from the one and only God? John 5:44 That says you cannot seek man honoring and Gods honor at the same time! So called fathering is taking upon ones self a responsibility that only belongs to God! We have been espoused to only one Husband and that is Jesus Christ. No one belongs in the middle. To ignore the recent history of the abuse of the fathering doctrine and to say we can do it better is just criminal neglect in my opinion. God has never had grandchildren! In scripture God has saved the title of Father for Himself. Calling someone my spiritual father seems a sincere compliment but it is error and creates false expectations that no man can meet. Each child of God has a life and an equal place in His body directly connected to The Head. To teach a model that diminishes this is to usurp His glory and honor. There is no Moses in the New Covenant there is only Jesus Christ. We are never to set a man in between us and Him. To Him be all honor and glory and power forever!
