I work most of the day today. I begin a new job tomorrow. So I - TopicsExpress

I work most of the day today. I begin a new job tomorrow. So I decided yesterday to give myself permission to take a day off. Of course, I still did some work. Yep. I set my timer for an hour. Changed projects after the first hour and worked through the second. Then, at 9:30am I stopped. It wasn’t easy. You’d think it would be easy giving yourself a little down time, but I always find it difficult. I knew, though, that I’d need it. I won’t get the chance to slow down until next weekend, if then. So I gave myself permission to stop temporarily. To pause. I went for a run and later went to a movie matinee. While on the run, I came up with a few cool ideas for my side-project chapter book. I wrote them down in my glove compartment notebook after the run. Later, after the flick, I added those notes to the computer and dabbled a bit. But for about 4-5 hours yesterday I simply decompressed. I walked a couple miles (to start and end my run). I got outside. Caught my breath. I went to a movie and just unplugged for two hours. I laughed. I imagined. Then, later, as I said I allowed myself to do a little work, to play around with a few ideas. But I just wasn’t feeling it yesterday. I was tired. A bit anxious about what awaits next week. And mostly I’ve been working nonstop all day long, most days. I listened to my body. Again, thats not as easy to do as it sounds. But our bodies try to let us know important tings all the time. Were usually pretty goo at ignoring them. It’s important to give ourselves permission to take a little down time every once and a while (a little break each day is wonderful, but once a week is also great). It doesn’t have to be an entire day, though if you can do that, go for it. Giving ourselves permission isn’t always easy - when it comes to devoting time to our creativity, when it comes to devoting time to nothing much at all. But it’s important. I hope some of you are able to give yourself that permission today. Keep after it, y’all. But don’t forget the importance of taking a little time off and just being.
