I would have not cared replying to news reports, were these not designed to cast malice on the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos. I am referring to the news interview aired by ABS CBN via Anthony Taberna last week and tonight. I was in Saudi Arabia when I was told that Mr. Taberna said on air that the NCMF had PDAF Projects on Hogs and Swine Raising. I arrived in the Philippines on October 20, 2013, and within a few days granted Mr. Taberna an interview to set the matters straight, as I do not want our Muslim constituents to think that NCMF has gone immoral and has violated the tenets of Islam. During the interview I asked Mr. Taberna to correct his declaration that NCMF had hog raising projects. I told him that the misinformation came from the web site of the DBM which included a menu of projects for congressmen (specifically TUCPs Mendoza and Cong Robes) mentioning livestock and including therein hog and swine raising. When these projects were submitted to us by the offices of the two congressmen we told their representatives that we cannot entertain their projects unless they change them. Cong. Mendoza changed his project by having chicken and ducks are his livestock, and eliminating hogs and swine. This was the project implemented, on top of high value crops, etc. Cong Robes did not want to change, and went to another agency. So, NCMF never allowed the implementation of any hog or swine raising project. What was implemented was a livestock project involving chicken and ducks. NCMF monitored the implementation of this project in Davao, and the project was implemented 100% as attested by the liquidation papers and a certification signed by Cong. Mendoza. I am writing this to set the records straight, lest our Muslim constituents will think that NCMF has betrayed them. We would also like to warn media and reporters to be more careful in the news that they relay to the public. They should never accuse people without first ascertaining the truth, because that is tantamount to people calling them on the take before finding out if that is really true or not. Im sure our media men will not also like that.
