I would just like to share the story of this woman whom I had the privilege to know in my life. Born in Compostela Valley, she had a simple childhood with nature as her playground but with poverty everywhere. My mom took her from the impoverished life in the province when she was 14 years old and brought her in Laguna. She was a fragile, skinny young lady when I met her sometime when I was in grade school but that did not impair her from taking care of me. She was the kindest, most patient and compassionate lady I have ever seen. I never heard her yell or even the slightest raise in her voice. Thats why she had so many friends in our neighborhood and they would hang out in our gate every night. Even though she had the most frail, tiny body, she still had the heart and energy to take care of my physically challenged cousin. I remember seeing her take care of my cousin like her own daughter. I knew she would be an amazing mother someday. And she did when she met her prince just around the corner who pursued her so much, no one nowadays could match up to the kind of love her husband gave to her. She had 2 lovely children who adored her well as a mother. But these past few years, her heath deteriorated. Her family took care of her and gave her all the food she would ask from them. Her husband would never let her lift a thing so she could have her rest. Every time I see her sitting beside her husband in the place where they would sell Balut, shed smile at me happily and I know that she was because she had people around her who loved her so much despite of everything. Most of us would just turn our head and leave when faced with difficult situation like having to take care of someone for a long time, poverty, and etc but her family especially her husband never left her side. Even when she silently drifted away from this world, her husband was hugging her and thought she was just asleep. Her parents may have not known her passing away because Ate Neneng lost communication with them long time ago so I am posting her story here hoping that someday, somehow, this would find a way to them or to any relative she might still have. But ultimately, I am sharing her story to the world to celebrate her life. Ate Neneng, wherever you are, I promise to look after your family the way you looked after me. I might have not said this to you when u were still alive but THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING. I would always be envious of the kind of life u had because you had found LOVE in its true meaning. WE WILL MISS YOU!
