I would like to say that getting involved with the debate on the repair strategy of the Chester River Bridge has been very inspiring. I have felt like a nobody in the world of politics. I have done homework to see who I should vote for, or what legislation should be passed, but have always felt a bit small, microscopic, in the scope of things. Today though... today I stood up, I used my 4-H public speaking background, and I spoke. I reiterated the financial impact of SMALL businesses with myself, Eric Fitch, Jen Koch, Erin Reynolds Huffer, Bob Schauber, and many others in mind. We are young business owners trying to survive in this town. I attested to the fact that there are many open spots for rent in the downtown area, and businesses are suffering. The closure would cause even more detriment over the extended period of time in which they are predicting it will take. I also raised the question that it seemed no one had though of, What is the safety of the Crumpton Bridge if all the traffic is rerouted there? I admitted that I dont like to ride my bike over it, let alone having to be the one driving a concrete truck and tractor trailer over that bridge. I also feel like Kingstown is misrepresented from a political stand point. We live in Queen Annes County, yet most of our daily activities take place in Kent County. I am trying to figure out what this all means. One thing I do know is that I felt much bigger after I used my voice.. and it was in a GOOD kinda way!
