I would like to share a story concerning the events that occurred - TopicsExpress

I would like to share a story concerning the events that occurred today of a police officer, a friend, and his dog who was wrongfully murdered. He did not ask me to post this, however I felt it was necessary as this could easily happen to anyone. Approximately 7 a.m. this morning, my friend Max Morley was woken up by a knock on his door at his home. When he opened the door, he was greeted by a Houston County Sheriff police officer. The police officer asked Max if he owns a brown pitbull, and Max informed the officer that he indeed owns a 5 year old 45 lb male pitbull by the name of Junkyard. The officer then stated that he was sorry but he had just shot the dog dead. He stated that Junkyard was at a nearby neighbor’s house where he was barking at their door. The neighbor then calls the authorities, to inform of the situation. Max informed the officer that he had let Junkyard out in the fenced in backyard late last evening, and fell asleep. Junkyard apparently dug a hole underneath the fence, and made his way out of the backyard. When the police officer arrived at the neighbor’s home, he stated that Junkyard ran towards him and that’s when he shot the dog dead. He stated he saw the dog as being ‘aggressive’ by running towards him. He did not state that the dog growled, or showed any other aggressive demeanor. Max does not plan to pursuit any further legal action; as he believes that negligence could be the argument from the police officer. I truly believe that the reasoning of Junkyards death was due to his breed. Pitbulls are labeled in society as dangerous dogs, which is absolutely not the case. Had Junkyard been a Labrador or German Shepard, he might have lived to see another day. I hope that you guys feel in your heart to share this story, and the pain this has caused my friend, myself, and other dog lovers. Hopefully his story can raise awareness for other Pitbull owners, and possibly make an impact on the current tactics for Police officers attending to animal calls. Rest in Peace Junkyard
