I would like to spread a little helpful advice to my fellow veterans. When you either ETS, Retire, Medically retire, etc... You are promised some things. This is also for those veterans that are disabled and may have put in for an increase in their rating. I had an increase from 90% to 100% in October 2013. I retired August 2012, so my retroactive pay goes back to my retirement date. Awesome! But, after waiting 10 months for them to audit my accounts to make sure they didnt owe me anything, I started to ask questions. I call DFAS, who tells me to call VA. VA tells me DFAS has to send the paperwork. See the viscious circle? Time to call my congressman. Honorable Richard Hannah, you are the man! Actually it was his aide, Jason Phelps. He found out that DFAS had coded my retroactive pay wrong. Problem fixed, now the wait for the deposit. First I would urge you to do your homework, make sure you use your local representative to ensure the papers you are submitting are done correctly. Theres nothing worse then complaining only to find out the error was yours. If you cover all of your bases and still dont get answers. Use your assets. DONT GIVE UP ON WHAT YOU ARE ENTITLED TO!
