I would like to take this opportunity to quickly thank all of those who competed and volunteered at yesterdays 2014 Garrison Petawawa Military Combatives Championships. Without all of the people who organized the tournament, helped to set up/tear down, worked the tables and refereed the matches, none of it would have been possible. The official results will be released very soon but the main highlights are: The 2014 Team Champions are: 2 Royal Canadian Horse Artillery The Absolute Champion is: John Goodyear from the Royal Canadian Dragoons The official photos from the event will be posted later this week. In addition, I will publish a more detailed list of those who were key in the tournaments success. It was an amazing day of Combatives, sportsmanship, team spirit and most importantly, an exhibition of the WARRIOR ETHOS. The event raised over $600 for Soldier On!. I will be making a formal presentation to this very worthwhile organization later this week. Thank you everyone for your support. We are warriors supporting warriors. A complete list of the division winners and an article about the Combatives movement in the Canadian Armed Forces will be published shortly in our national news publication, the Maple Leaf. Stay tuned! As I briefed at the tournament, YOU are part of history in the making. With a stalwart effort and an unrelenting desire to succeed, WE will make Combatives the single largest sporting event in the Forces and its most valued skillset. There is no doubt in my mind. And how do I know this?...because a warrior never gives up, never lays down, never complains, never entertains the thought of not succeeding. A warrior only moves in one direction...forward. Being a warrior is a mindset, it is a state of being. It is not measured in terms of physical fitness or false displays of bravado. Being a warrior is about managing fear and overcoming the desire to flee from the threat of defeat. Be a WARRIOR! We will be announcing next years tournament date later this week. Start putting your teams together and I look forward to seeing you on the proving grounds! Spread the word, we will succeed together or fail together...its up to YOU.
