I would like to take this opportunity to respond to several questions that have been asked regarding my position and my platform. Two facts : I am a retired teacher who has spent 37 years in classrooms teaching children that range in ability from the gifted to special needs. For the past 16 years, I have attended regularly the monthly Council meetings, and for a few years also participated by asking questions at the Executive Committee meetings. More often than not I am the Public at Question Period time. Simply put: I know exactly what the needs of students are, and the way the board operates. I dont like it. Thats why its time for a Revolution @ the Lester B. Pearson School Board. Before I go on with my platform, here are some of my past accomplishments: I helped expose the misuse of $900K for a Pre-K program. I initiated webcasting via letters to the editor, pushed the government for a student ombudsman, fought for defibrillators in all schools and an improved (2008) Code of Ethics. I propose free speech at board public question periods. There will be a close scrutiny of spending. The elimination of Quebec English School Boards Association will produce over $200,000 for our classroom. The 4-year gag order on ex-commissioners will be removed. I will look for ways to improve current student programs for regular and special needs. There will more emphasis on ethical operations. MOST IMPORTANT : PARENTS MUST BE THE AUTHORITY: Governing Board authority must be recognized. Classrooms are more important than board rooms. School boards must operate as service providers. Schools must be the policy makers. The welfare of all students must be a primary concern when making decisions. We need a REVOLUTION to put an end to school board secrecy and taxpayers to get more BANG for their buck. The status quo is over. For more information, please visit my website : AceTeacher.ca
