I would like to thank Kulturecity for taking on my weighted blanket project. Having two grandchildren with autism, one of whom I am raising I know first hand the difference these blankets can make in the life of a child and the whole family. I know the struggles of the daily life of a child with autism and I can add personally that as a grandparent and older then most parents raising children with autism, I do not have the same energy and when night time comes, I really really need my sleep! I do not function as well on little or no sleep as I did 30 years ago. I can handle the day time battles, but oh how I needed my sleep! I was told about weighted blankets, then I found out what they cost and I did not have it, and there was no help out there to get one. Im lucky, Im a seamstress, I can sew, I can make them! They still were not cheap to make, but I could do it. Oh how they worked and they were worth every penny they cost! I decided to start my own business and sell them. Good plan until I got so many requests for blankets from families that could not afford them and were at their wits end and I understood them, I was them! I had to do what was right, I had to help. So I did and do make and sell blankets, but I take the money I make and make blankets to donate. I used that money, my money, money I didnt have, my children helped and some of my Face Book followers have donated, and I kept sewing and donating. With this help I was donating an average of 15 blankets a month, until August, a very slow month and I just did not have anything, but 16 blankets that were sewn together, ready to fill and be shipped, but I had no way of doing that. Then came in Kulturecity! Jilian gave me $400 for the pellets and the postage to fill those blankets and get them out! Then he asked me to partner with Kulturecity and run a blanket program. Blanket:KULTURE is helping far more people then I would ever have been able to on my own. This has been a passion of mine, I believe my mission, my way to serve my great God. It may just seem like blankets, but it is so much more. These blankets save families, families that are on the brink of breaking up sometimes because dad needs sleep to keep his job and he cant get that at home because his child will not sleep. Moms that are at the end of their rope because they often only get a few hours of sleep a night but still have to be mom to a child with special needs and other children that need her just as much, that she already feels guilty for short changing them on that. One blanket, just one little blanket can change all that. How grateful would you be if it were dollars, just money that kept this blanket from you, was paid for by someone else? Would you give $70 or more to buy one blanket to save a family? Would you donate $20 to help? Would you donate if you knew that 100% of what you donate goes to these blankets and not some admids pocket? I dont have the means to give money, so I give my time and my talent and I sew. I understand if you dont have the means to donate money as well, but you can donate your time, start fund raisers, share the program with everyone you know, it might sell blankets, it might find donors, you never know and you never will unless you ask! Sorry this was so long, I have been locked in the sewing room all day with my handy little side kick by my side, talking my ear off! I just wanted to give you some things to think about.
