I would love to hear others thoughts on this subject. This ruling is wrong on so many levels. 1. Messiah is a variation of the Hebrew word Meshiach/Meshioch meaning savior, which was a title given to anointed kings and priests. The name was given to many throughout history not just Jesus the Christ. King Darius was hailed as a Meshioch for agreeing to help the Jews resettle after the Babylonian captivity and rebuild their temple in Jerusalem. Emperor Julian was hailed the same way for his plan to resettle the Jews in their homeland after their expulsion by Hadrian. 2. The Judge is ruling based on her own religious belief, which is not allowed on the bench. The laws separating church and state were established for a reason. If we ban every name that is objectionable to any segment of the population, then we are allowing these groups to dictate the lives of others. There is far too much of this going on already. We have to start drawing lines somewhere. 3. There is no way that a government entity should be allowed to tell parents what they are allowed to name their children. Kim and Kanye just named their daughter North West. Stupid? In my not so humble opinion, yes. But that should not matter because she is not my child.
