FROM THE NEWSROOM: This upcoming First Friday in Putnam will be taking a trip back in history to some of the most inspired examples of architecture, both locally and world wide. Called “gateways to our past”, and for good reason, structures such as the great pyramids of Egypt, the Roman Colosseum and the Great Wall of China have captured the minds of people of all ages, and that is exactly what this upcoming event means to celebrate. With a theme of building the future, disposable cameras will be handed out this Friday and patrons are encouraged to take photos of downtown Putnam to create a collaborative city-scape that will be on display throughout the month. There will also be a sand castle built during the event, where you can watch the artists create their own temporary architecture. The Putnam Puppet Troupe Collaborative will be putting their own spin on the motif with a retelling of the three little pigs story, where the big bad house inspector wolf will come to test out the houses that theyve built. And thinking outside the box, the musical duo The Hornitz will challenge event-goers to look at the structure of song with human beatboxing and live-looping performances. Whether youre a history buff who loves taking in the ever-enriching process of architecture or someone who simply appreciates the artform, you can find both aspects celebrated from 6:00-9:00PM this Friday.
