I write this as a young Mumbaikar, seething with anger and anguish against the ill will of the Congress- NCP govt. towards our state and city. This assembly session, the last of this govt, before it is thrown out of power, the Congress- NCP have planned to De-reserve and grab Mumbais prime lands- 1) The Racecourse (19 acres of 225 acres to be grabbed for heliport only for govt. VVIPs) 2) Salt Pans (71 acres!!!) We have opposed this, and every Mumbaikar must stand beyond politics to oppose this shameless act of land grabbing. This will not only lead to an environmental imbalance, but also effectively grab away Mumbais prime space from the common Mumbaikar, not to development, but commercialization and private lobbies. The last 15 years have been of development deficit for Maharashtra, especially when compared to the Shiv Sena- BJP govt of 1995 to 1999 in terms of infrastructure, industrial growth, law and order and control over inflation. What amuses me is the eagerness with which the CM and Congress- NCP government change laws to suit their needs, most heard during alleged controversy over Lavasa environmental clearances, Jaitapur Nuclear Plant clearances (unsafe, unclean energy now rejected by the world), Shielding tainted ministers dipped in the irrigation scam responsible for thousands of farmer suicides, and now Salt Pans and Racecourse BUT cant amend laws to suit the common man like in the case of Campa Cola (where only the CM can help now but herein he sees the rules over humanity), or the proposed Mumbai Park at Racecourse or even basic Nightlife for Mumbai. Be it urban, be it rural, the government and its actions have not made any sense for the people it was meant to serve and now as its misrule seems to be thrown out, they want to earn a quick buck through such anti people projects. This attitude has to change and We will change it to make development pro people and sustainable in terms of environment.
