I wrote a skit about Simon and Garfunkel once just after I got out of grade school. It was really impossible to miss that they argue a lot ;) so I wrote about that. They had some conversation which included lots of arguing. Since I didnt know anything about music it wasnt about that, unless I made things up. It probably included things like who was doing the dishes, which could be a topic of resentment for me. I always thought they were trapped in the sibling rivalry from hell, being friends and getting famous unexpectedly and then constantly being compared to each other after that. Its like this one is the smart one and that one is the pretty one, or this one is the logical one and that one is the creative one, or - it didnt seem to ever end. That probably happens to a lot of musical groups but for them it was intense since there were only two of them and theyd been friends before. They were living on separate continents when they had that first hit, and then what do you do? I always thought they made it a long time given that beginning. Then its hard when the music is so extremely emotionally moving for a lot of people and you have your admiring public complicating everything. And its not like youre on your own and can make your own decisions. The Beatles had this too but there were four of them and I dont think they all met as young as Simon and Garfunkel did.
