I wrote a story for my four year old neice, Emily. Im hoping my mum will illustrate it for me. Ill get it printed and send it as a Christmas gift. What do you think? Emily was a serious little girl. She played and laughed sometimes, but she was never, ever silly. Emily had an Auntie Lala. Auntie Lala was silly. Emily didn’t know why. Emily went to visit Auntie Lala one day. “We’re going to have lots of fun,” said Auntie Lala. Emily didn’t smile. “Let’s make lunch!” said Auntie Lala. Emily was hungry, so she nodded. Auntie Lala and Emily made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with chips and milk. Emily sat down and almost took a bite of her sandwich when Auntie Lala said, “Don’t eat that!!” and looked very worried. “Why?” asked Emily with a frown. “Because we have to do this first!” said Auntie Lala with a giggle, and grabbed Emily’s hand. She walked Emily in circles around the table while humming a happy little tune. Once…twice…three times! Then she stopped and did a little dance. “There, NOW we can eat,” said Auntie Lala and helped Emily scoot her chair closer to the table. Emily didn’t smile. But she did eat all of her lunch. After lunch, Auntie Lala said, “We need to do a few chores, and then we’ll go have a fun surprise!” Emily liked surprises. But she didn’t like chores. She didn’t smile. The first chore was to do the dishes from their lunch. Auntie Lala stood at the sink and Emily stood on a stool beside her. Auntie Lala filled the sink with a whole lot of soap bubbles. She picked up a handful of suds and rubbed them on her own chin. “Arrrr, I be Bubble Beard the pirate!” she said and giggled. She left the suds on her chin until Emily had rinsed the last dish. Then Auntie Lala put a little ball of bubbles on Emily’s nose. “You’re my First Mate – Bubbily!” And she giggled for a long time. Emily scrubbed the bubbles off of her nose and scowled. Auntie Lala let Emily wipe the bubbles off of her chin with a dish towel. “Next, let’s bring down the dirty laundry.” They went up the stairs. Emily thought they’d carry it all down in a basket, but Auntie Lala grabbed handfuls of the dirty clothes and flung them over the railing. They flew down and landed on the furniture and the floor. “Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!” said Auntie Lala as she put a pair of tights on her head and made them twirl like a helicopter. Emily didn’t smile. “Now we have to bring them to the laundry room. Down stairs!” Auntie Lala yelled like a military general and pointed toward the stairs. She sat down on the top step and scooted down to the next step on her bottom with a thump. And then the next, and the next…all the way down to the bottom, giggling the whole time. Emily walked down behind her with a frown. Once all of the laundry was in the baskets, Auntie Lala said “Yard work!” and they bundled up because it was a chilly fall day. Raking the leaves took longer than Emily thought it would because Auntie Lala kept stomping on them and giggling. “Crunchy leaves are fun!” Then she picked up a big handful and threw it up in the air. Emily picked the leaves out of her hair. She was NOT smiling. Finally, all of the chores were done. “Time for the surprise!” Auntie Lala said and they got into the car. Auntie Lala sang Christmas songs very loudly on the whole drive. It wasn’t even Thanksgiving yet!, thought Emily with a serious face. “We’re here!” said Auntie Lala. She and Emily got out of the car. Auntie Lala beeped the alarm on the car to make sure it was locked. “Beep!” she said and tapped Emily’s nose with her finger. She giggled and kept beeping the alarm and Emily’s nose until they were too far away for it to work anymore. Emily didn’t smile. They were at the mall. It was very crowded and had lots of stores. They finally came to a very pink store. It was shiny and there was fun music playing. Emily knew this place. It was the princess store! They let you put on pretty dresses and did your make up and made your hair look nice! She loved this place! She smiled - a little. Emily picked out a pretty blue dress with a fluffy skirt and soft sleeves. Then, she sat in a princess chair to get her hair done. She didn’t see Auntie Lala for a little while. Suddenly, Auntie Lala appeared in a very bright yellow dress with crazy colored birds all over it and a huge pink crown. She had on way too much make up and her hair was sticking up all over. “I’m Queen Silly Lala!” she said proudly and looked at Emily. “Oh my!” said Auntie Lala, “You look so very pretty Princess Emily!” and she curtsied. Emily liked being a princess. She smiled a big smile. “Everyone!” shouted Auntie Lala, “This is Princess Emily. She’s very serious. But she’s the prettiest princess in all the land.” Emily stared at Auntie Lala. She didn’t think her aunt should be yelling in the store. Then Auntie Lala stopped yelling and took off the pointy pink crown. She looked sad. “What’s wrong Auntie Lala?” asked Emily very seriously. “I’ve been silly all day and I still couldn’t make you laugh.” She said sadly, and looked like she was going to cry. “I did a silly walk around the table before lunch. And I made a bubble beard. I threw the laundry over the railing and wore tights on my head like a helicopter. I bumped down the stairs on my bottom. I crunched leaves and beeped your nose like my car…but you didn’t think any of it was fun.” She sighed. “I’m just your silly Auntie Lala.” Auntie Lala flopped down sadly onto a chair – and then jumped right back up with a yelp! She had sat on the pointy pink crown! She turned in circles rubbing her bottom. “Ow! Ow Ow Ow!” She said in a loud voice, then started hiccupping. “Hic-ow! Hic-ow! Hic-ow!” It was such a funny sight that Emily smiled a little. Then a little more – and then finally she started giggling and couldn’t stop! Auntie Lala was so surprised and happy that she forgot about her sore bottom and lifted Emily in her arms and hugged the laughing girl. Emily was still a serious girl. But when Auntie Lala wanted to make her laugh, she just whispered, “Hic-Ow” in Emily’s ear, and Emily would giggle about her silly Auntie Lala.
