I wrote the following poem while riding the A train to Brooklyn from the Upper West side of Manhattan...hope you like it ---One Love! The NYC The Subways The rush to get in and get out The pushing and shoving The packing in like sardines in a can The spills and thrills Of the perverted dregs of society The NYC The Subways The diversity of the people From all walks of life The multicultures Dressed in their traditional clothes Who knows where they are from? Or the life they have led? The NYC Subways The African mother Who before her stop Wraps her child around her back All bundled up in an African garment The back of a hard working mother Originating from Africa And making a stop through NYC On her journey in life The different languages spoken From so many countries Is it French? Spanish? Italian? The NYC Subways The poverty The low class The middle class The upper class And occasionally The rich class If its a movie star you are Wishing to one day meet On a NYC subway The bums the peddlers The beggars and scammers Imagine using your child your baby Your own flesh and blood Only to scam for money Knowing damn well That you live lovely Yet scamming The ignorant and innocent How low do you go? The NYC Subways Here we go again! The introduction The sales pitch The close the sale Sounds like real life On Wall St. At a store On your phone Wherever you go Theres a sales pitch The NYC Subways The Smells The Rude The arrogance The humble The meek The hard workers Trying to catch some shut eye But dont keep them shut too long That is if you dont want to be robbed By the thieves Preying on the tired The weak The elderly The NYC Subways The ghetto and loud The users and abusers The mentally sick and crazy The perverted trying to cop a feel The NYC Subways The religious from different faiths Wearing their religious garb and garments On their way to worship their god The NYC Subways The dancers using the poles Contorting and twisting To the sounds of the beats The musicians the singers Some talented Some semi Some not so talented And some oh my! You better find another talent!! The NYC Subways The times have changed Rarely will you find a gentleman Willing to give up his seat to a woman Or a child Now its the women giving up their seats To a child, elderly or disabled This shows the time we are living in The selfish The greedy The judgemental The rude and inconsiderate Theres no place like NYC The micro-cosm of real life!! For real!! The NYC Subways!! Joyce Colon aka NYorican JC 07/08/2013
