I wrote the piece below on February15, 2011. Please check it out again! ................ There should be no pretence about it at all. It was Asiwaju Segun Oni’s concept and idea to totally reconstruct and overhaul the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State, BSES, complete with an Outside Broadcasting Van. The judicial government’s documentary that listed it as part of its 100 days’ achievements was not only laughable but highly condemnable. The government of Segun Oni was focused and envisioned from the onset. It set out to touch every aspect of Ekiti life which was why we built a world class eye centre, embarked on building the best State Assembly Complex in the country, Durable buildings at the State Secretariat Complex and the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium which is of international standards with Olympic standard tracks amongst several others. For the avoidance of doubt, the State Assembly Complex was 80% completed as at October 15, 2010 while the State Secretariat Complex had also reached an advanced stage. The materials for the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium were already in Ado before we left and it only required laying and grassing. The Segun Oni government had duly paid 60% of total cost of the fully digitalized, state of the art equipments including transmitters for the BSES and these were ordered to specifications. The Contractor handling the Complex moved to site and started work there over six months ago and was paid 60% of his fees. The project was virtually completed by the time we left office and was billed to start test transmission from December 1, 2010 while Mr. President was billed to commission it in the third week of January 2011. Two renown broadcasters, Drs Yemi Farounbi and Tonnie Iredia, former Chairman, Broadcasting Service of Osun State and former Drector General, Nigerian Television Authority NTA, were penciled down to recruit good hands as well as retraining trainable old staff to ensure that the new BSES would not just wear a new look but also parade the best brains around thus becoming the toast of its peers in the south west.. How then could any right thinking succeeding government list such a gigantic project as part of its achievement in 100 days? I believe the best the judicial government of Dr Kayode Fayemi could do was to acknowledge these noble efforts not for Asiwaju Segun Oni, but for Ekiti people. Ekiti people cannot be fooled; they know who did what and at what time. No matter the peddling of falsehood or window dressing in the name of a hundred days celebrations can pale out or remove from the tablet of the hearts of Ekiti people, the good works of the government of His Excellency, Asiwaju Olusegun Adebayo Oni. We hope numerous other projects like the NTA, Ado Ekiti Road Project, the Ado – Ifaki dualization project, the 133/134 KVA Power project etc would not be listed as part of 120 days or 150 days of the amunisin government currently lording itself over Ekiti State.
