I wrote this on my status a few minutes ago and then thought it might speak for some of you, so I am sharing my feelings here: Everyone has their own idea of Paradise. Some people think it lies in our imaginations, a foolish vision taught by a corrupt church to keep peasants in line. Others think we create our own heaven and hell right here on earth with our own actions. When I was growing up, my idea of Paradise was Oak Creek Canyon. I spend many days basking in the warm sun there, many nights listening to the creek as it bubbled and gurgled its way through the rocks. I learned to catch minnows, kiss boys and love life right by those cold waters. Whether you believe that God created this magnificent place for us to enjoy or not, you must believe that the Canyons gifts to us were immeasurable. Today I cry for her and mourn for her, all the while thanking her for the precious memories while I try not to curse the fools that caused so much pain. I pray for all the firefighters who are risking their lives to fight this blaze. I pray that we stop working so hard at the destruction of all that is beautiful.
