I wrote this recently and wanted to share it with others so they may see the importance of sowing in obedience. Will a Man Rob God? Malachi 3:8, states, “Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But, ye say, wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings”. After reading this, I was given this analogy: How many of us have eaten out at restaurants, whether it is Red Lobsters or Bern’s Steakhouse. We enter in, take our seats and wait to be served. We then eat our meal in enjoyment, lavishing the food that is set before us and enjoying the atmosphere that surrounds us. After eating our meal, we pay for it and perhaps leave a nice tip to show our appreciation. We then leave the establishment feeling better than when we came in. We came in hungry and left feeling full. Now envision this” The church is the restaurant, the Pastor is the waiter, your tithe is the bill, and your offering is the tip. How many of us after dining in a restaurant, would simply sneak out without paying for the bill or leaving a tip? Yet, we come into the church (the restaurant), eat off the Lords table, get full, and when it’s time to pay the bill (tithes) or to leave a tip (offering), we simply sneak out the door without paying for the meal that was given to us by the waiter (the Pastor). Now, if you did this at a restaurant, the chances are that you would go to jail for robbery. So, why do you think it’s not robbery to do the same at church? What do you think Malachi 3:8 means? When you go out and eat at these restaurants, you are keeping them in business with your money. When you come to church and pay your tithes and offerings, it is what helps keep the church in business, so to speak. Why is it so easy to pay your bill at a restaurant for a meal that only lasts until the next time you are hungry, but when you eat off the Lord’s Table you have food that lasts for life? Why is it that when you are faced with trials and tribulations you don’t return to the place that you are supporting, the restaurant and ask them for help but instead you come to the place of God to seek help? If your favorite restaurant went out of business, how would you feel? If you feel that way about a restaurant, how would you feel if your church closed its doors? Imagine that? So, as you are bringing forth your tithes and offerings, keep Malachi 3:8 in mind. As you leave this place, ask yourself this” Have I robbed God? If so, what should my punishment be?
