ICMRP Mentioned in The Nation Story on Thailands Draft National Language Policy On 18th November, 2013, the ICMRP was mentioned in an opinion article in the The Nation newspaper by Professor Gerald Fry of the University of Minnesota: nationmultimedia/opinion/Thailands-new-language-policy-helps-enhance-cultur-30219853.html. The ICMRP is mentioned in the second paragraph from the bottom. The draft National Language Policy mentioned in the article is being coordinated by the Thai Royal Institute. If the draft Policy is implemented, it could mean a future where local and regional languages can be used alongside Thai in the formal education system to teach children and so achieve better academic results, as well as better EQ results from increased self-esteem and self-respect, which lead to lower drop-out rates and lower truancy rates. In addition, doctors and nurses could study local languages to help improve patient care for both the young and the elderly. Furthermore, municipalities could communicate with their citizens in Thai and a local or regional language in order to better inform citizens and achieve greater local democracy. The ICMRP welcomes the draft Thai National Language Policy and the smarter and happier Thai citizens it could bring.
