IDW30200 Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Western Australia Emergency Services Weather Briefing Issued at 10:59 am WST on Thursday 3 July 2014 for the period until midnight WST Thursday 3 July 2014. ROUTINE ISSUE Covering the period from Thursday 3 July to Wednesday 9 July 2014. MAIN POINTS A moderate cold front is expected to cross the southern half of the state on Sunday, bringing moderate to heavy falls and the chance of isolated damaging winds to the Lower West and South West Districts. A stronger cold front is forecast to cross southern parts on Monday, with current modelling suggesting widespread damaging wind gusts to 100km/h may occur south of Mandurah to Esperance. NORTHERN PARTS No significant weather is expected through the outlook period. A ridge of high pressure across central parts of the state is expected to weaken from Sunday as a series of cold fronts cross southern WA. Expect light to moderate and very dry E/SEly winds through the outlook period, although they will become fresh for a period on Saturday as a high pressure cell crosses South Australia. SOUTHERN PARTS A high pressure system over south eastern parts will move east as a weak cold front crosses the southwest corner on Friday. Isolated showers will continue about coastal parts of the southwest in the wake of the front through to Sunday. A moderate cold front is forecast to start crossing the southwest half of the state from early Sunday morning. Heavy falls and isolated damaging winds are possible about the west coast and adjacent inland parts south of Jurien Bay, with a period of showers expected to move through remaining parts. A more significant front is expected to follow during Monday, bringing strong and squally winds and an increase in shower activity, although rainfall totals are likely to be much lower than with Sundays front. Small hail is possible over the south coast later on Monday. Based on current modelling widespread damaging wind gusts to 100km/h may occur south of roughly Mandurah to Esperance. A front of this strength crosses the southwest 5-10 times per year on average. Conditions will rapidly ease from the west on Tuesday as the front moves through to the east and a ridge of high pressure develops over central parts of the state. Isolated coastal showers are expected to persist south of Jurien Bay. Copyright Commonwealth of Australia 2010, Bureau of Meteorology (ABN 92 637 533 532)
