IELTS Writing Tips In this post we are going to see what kind of structures can appear after an ADJECTIVE. We know that a noun often appears after an ADJECTIVE: a sunny day, a beautiful woman. However, there other forms coming after some adjectives when these adjectives appear after A LINKING VERB like be, become, feel, look, seem, sound. We can use TO-INFINITIVE after these adjectives: able, careful,crazy,curious,difficult,easy,foolish,free,good,hard,impossible,inclined,,ad,nice,prepared,ready,stupid,welcome,willing -We were prepared to take action. -You are welcome to visit us any time. -He sounds inclined to consider our proposal. - It became impossible to change his mind. We can use –ING after these adjectives: busy,crazy,foolish,mad,stupid,feel awful, awkward,bad,good,guilty,terrible -We are busy preparing the lunch. -It felt foolish trying to discuss with him. We can use THAT-CLAUSE after these adjectives: afraid,alarmed,amazed,angry,annoyed,ashamed,astonished,aware, concerned,disappointed,glad,happy,unhappy,pleased,shocked,sorry,upset,worried,certain,confident,positive,sure -We were alarmed that there was no news of him for two weeks. -He sounded astonished that I had already met her. -The government is concerned that the rate of crime is on the rise. We can use a WH-CLAUSE after these adjectives: afraid, not aware/unaware, not certain,uncertain,doubtful,not sure,unsure, worried -I am uncertain why they changed their position. -I was unaware how they were going to organize the party.
