IF YOU FALL I WILL CATCH YOU - FLOOR: Yet another call for an elderly person that has fallen on their way to or from the toilet during the early hours of the morning. These calls are usually very similar in many ways and are often entertaining, apart from the pain involved and trying to find wandering veins under loose fitting skin. Last night or early this morning I had a lovely old lady that I found lying next to the toilet, she reminded me a of a beetle on its back as she struggled to lift her head to look at us. It was an old age home and the commotion in the passage had woken a few of the more curious residents that had offered her words of comfort but that was all, their basic first aid knowledge had stopped them from moving her and encouraged her to keep still. After I placed a pillow between her head and the cold tiles and began assessing her injuries, the home staff were already asking me where I was going to take her. It only took a few minutes and what I did next must have astounded the onlookers and staff, I helped her up. She couldnt thank me enough as she shuffled off to her room a few doors down the passage. She made it there just in time to answer a concerned phonecall on her mobile phone from her daughter that the staff had notified after her fall. When I left her she was laughing into the phone and behind me I overheard another women of the same age talking about her last fall, Mine was on a Saturday night and nobody woke up!
