IF YOU THINK THAT YOUR WATER IS UNSAFE HERE IS WHATS BEEN ADDED TO IT FOR YEARS.--Fluoridation was judged to be a safe way to ensure that all people benefited from the positive effects of fluoride. From adding fluoride to the water supply, it was a natural progression to add fluoride to toothpaste as well. In 1951, a form of fluoride known as stannous fluoride was sold to Procter and Gamble. The company added the fluoride to its Crest brand toothpaste. Other toothpaste manufacturers soon adopted the practice. The American Dental Association has backed the addition of fluoride to toothpaste ever since then. Prescription fluoride toothpastes are also available, which contain a much higher level of fluoride than the over-the-counter doses. However, fluoride is not entirely safe. In high levels, fluoride is extremely toxic. A high concentration of fluoride in the body can lead to severe gastrointestinal disturbances and even death. In 1992, widespread fluoride poisoning occurred in an Alaska town after its fluoridation equipment malfunctioned. Hundreds fell ill and one person died. A review of ongoing research by the US National Research Council showed that chronic high levels of systemic fluoride may be linked to bone weakening, reduced thyroid functioning, some cancers, and even brain damage. It appears, however, that the concentration of fluoride needed to cause these disorders is extremely high. The American Dental Association, a longtime proponent of fluoridation, states on its website that fluoridated water is not recommended for use in the mixing of infant formulas. The ADA’s stated position is that it is possible for infants to ingest more than the recommended amount of fluoride if it is used in formula preparation. IS IT POSSIBLE THAT TOO MUCH FLUORIDE HAS CAUSED THIS DISASTER OF OUR CURRENT WATER PROBLEM.???????
