IGP VISITS RIVERS, SHUNS GOV AMAECHI. The Inspector-General - TopicsExpress

IGP VISITS RIVERS, SHUNS GOV AMAECHI. The Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Abubakar, yesterday shunned Rivers State Gover-nor Chibuike Amaechi as he did not pay the usual courtesy visit to the Government House. The Inspector General was in the state capital to launch operational vehicles donated by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for dif- ferent units and departments under the Rivers State Police Command. It has become a tradition for service chiefs to pay courtesy visits to serving governors when they visit their state formations or commands on official routine but the Police boss did not visit the governor yesterday. No reason was given by the police authority in Port Harcourt. Journalists invited for a press briefing by the IGP, slated for 10.am yesterday waited endlessly for four hours only to be informed that the he had left Port Harcourt for Abuja. “The IGP was essentially in Rivers State Police Command to launch operation vehicles purchased for different departments and units of the command. The IGP’s visit is for operational purpose. He came in this morning and left this morning. There was no space for matters outside police operations”, a source told Daily Trust. Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command has smashed a baby factory syndicate that specialized in selling stolen one-day old babies to women who are desperate to have children of their own. The syndicate operates from God’s Gift Maternity Home, No. 6, School Road, Elelewo, in Port Harcourt. The Maternity Home is owned by one Dr. Precious Chinyere Emeka. Two of her accomplices, Mr. Ndubuisi Joseph and his wife, Mrs. Chioma Ndubuisi Joseph, were also arrested. Precious claimed that she was a medical doctor duly registered by the Nigeria Medical and Dental Association. She claimed that her registration number is no. 348. Her claim was, however, punctured by a Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP Jovinus Iwuh, who declared that she was a fake doctor. “She is not a doctor. She also claimed to be a homeopathic doctor during investigation. She is the owner of the maternity home while John and Chioma steal new-born babies for her to sell to desperate women. They confessed during interrogations that they sell a baby boy as much as N4m, while baby girls go for N2m. They live in affluence, especially the ring leader, Precious who owns expensive cars, including a new Prado Jeep”. Iwuh continued: “On August 3, the Rivers State Police Command got information that there was a baby factory in Port Harcourt which specialized in the stealing of a day-old baby. We stormed the place and found a-day old baby concealed behind her theatre. A pregnant woman was being prepared for delivery. They will inject the woman to make her unconscious then rub her body with animal blood. They will also rub the baby’s body with animal blood, to give the impression that a delivery had taken place. In actual fact, the woman is not pregnant. The woman was never pregnant. They deceive the women to believe that they are pregnant.” “They inject the women with a particular subs- tance to make their stomach to protrude. They moni-tor them for nine months and give them a date for delivery. They are then taken to the theatre for delivery. They are injected to make them unconscious. They regain their consciousness to find a baby beside them, apparently stolen from a new mother” -DAILY TRUST
