IHAD (STRUGGLE) IN ISLAM: ********************** The best jihad [struggle] is (by) the one who strives against his own self for Allah, The Mighty and Majestic, Hadith (sayings of the Prophet Muhammad Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam ). Fight in the way of Allah against those who fight you, and do not transgress. Verily, Allah does not like the transgressors. And fight in the cause of Allah against those who fight against you(Yes,) but do not exceed limitsSurely Allah does not like those who exceed limits. Al Quran , Chapter 2, verse 190. Meanings of Jihad: *************** Jihad and Mujahid (one who carries out a jihad) are two religious words that have been given multiple meanings: Many accounts in the media define jihad as a synonym for holy war, -- a vicious clash between followers of different religions, each of whom believes that God is on their side and that the other side is is of Satan. This usage often appears on Western TV, radio, and other media during news about the Middle East, where it is used to describe a call for Muslims to fight against non-Muslims in the defense of Islam. Some Muslims have begun to adopt this meaning of jihad as a result of Western influence. Others use the term as a synonym for a struggle of any type. This reflects the origin of the word from the Arabic verb jahada which means to struggle or fight. What is Jihad? and Types of Jihad ?? *************************** Jihad is misconceived today as a term that suggests violence by non-muslims and Whole world (non-muslims) and many muslim brothers and sisters thinks that there is only one type of Jihad i.e Jihad with weapon against non-muslim but in real there are 3 types of Jihad (1)Jihad-an-nafs (2)Jihad ash-shaitaan (3)Jihad al-kuffar. some scholar says 4 types of jihad and that is (4)jihad wal-Munafiqeen (hypocrites) But first 3 are main or you can say proved jihads. lets understand little bit about all 3 types of jihad. 1. Jihad-an-nafs (Jihad is to struggle against ones own self and desires) **************************************************** Jihad-an-nafs is the most important and greatest jihad in islam. The messenger of Allah ( Muhammad Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam ) said The best Jihad is for one to perform Jihad against his own self and against his desires. Struggling against ones self desires means forcing yourself to follow the orders of Allah and to stay away from what Allah has ordered us to stay away from. This includes performing the obligatory and the voluntary, and to abandon all acts that are Haram (unlawful) or Makrooh (disliked). This type of jihad also includes forcing oneself to behave with the best manners, the best morals, and to stay away from bad behavior at a time when our desires tell us the opposite. The Messenger ( Muhammad Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam ) said: The best Jihad is for one to perform Jihad against his own self and against his desires [Abu Nuaim] The Prophet ( Muhammad Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam ) said: Jihad against ones own self in the Cause of Allah is the best Jihad [at-Tabaraani] The Messenger ( Muhammad Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam ) said (during his farewell Hajj): Should I inform you of who the Mumin (true believer) is? It is he who people are secure from him with regards to their wealth and their own selves. The (true) Muslim is he who people are safe from (being harmed by) his tongue and hand. The (true) Mujahid is he who performs Jihad an-Nafs in the obedience of Allah. And the (true) Muhajir (the migrant in the Cause of Allah) is he who abandons error and sin [Ahmed, al-Haakim and at-Tabaraani] Continued ............... Note: Please share it because spreading a Good or Islamic Knowledge is Sadqa (charity) Any good deed that a Muslim starts during his life time, and that is of renewed benefit and ongoing use for the Muslims, will continue to benefit him and augment his record of good deeds, even after his departure - as long as its benefits continue to reach others. Allah, the Most High, says: We record that (deeds) which they have put forward and their traces (that which they have left behind). [ Al Quran 36:12] Abu Hurayrah, rahimahullah, reported that Allahs Messenger, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, said, When a human being dies, all of his deeds are terminated except for three types: an ongoing sadaqah, a knowledge (of Islam) from which others benefit, and a righteous child who makes dua for him.
