IJF President Mr. Marius Vizer eyes successful World Championships 23th August 2013. IJF President Mr. Marius Vizer shared his thoughts and expectations for the 2013 World Championships on Thursday ahead of the IJF Congress which will take place at the Sofitel Hotel on Friday. “Brazil has one of the strongest national federations in the world,” said Mr. Vizer who was elected SportAccord President in May. “This is built on their high level of membership, international success and the events they have staged previously such as the Rio Grand Slam. “I was elected IJF President in Rio at the 2007 World Championships and so it is fitting to return to Rio. I’m very pleased to be here for our most important event of the year. I believe this will be one of our best World Championships. We have good synergy with the federation and this is a significant event in terms of preparation for Rio 2016 for ourselves, the athletes, officials and all parties. The World Championships represents a perfect rehearsal of the 2016 Olympic tournament. “Rio also marks the end of the testing period of the new refereeing and organisational rules that we have put in place since January. After the World Championships, all the modifications that have been made will be analysed and the final decisions will be taken for the upcoming Olympic qualification period.” Meanwhile, the continental judo unions held their respective Ordinary Congress meetings on Thursday morning as the European Judo Union, Judo Union of Asia, Oceania Judo Union and African Judo Union convened at the Sofitel Hotel. The Pan American Judo Confederation Congress did not take place.
