IL Clients... BE AN ALLY You have a passion to make a difference. You have unique skills, experiences, and a sincere commitment to helping people while improving your community. Above all, you have a desire to lead. Public Allies is here for you. Our 10-month, full-time AmeriCorps apprenticeship program can help get you on a pathway to further your education and career, while giving you skills to expand your influence and leadership skills. APPLY TO BE AN ALLY FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Who We Select We believe everyone leads, and each year we choose people of widely diverse backgrounds to join our signature AmeriCorps program. On average, Allies are two-thirds people of color, 60% are female, 50% are college graduates, and 15% are LGBT. To participate in the program, individuals must have at least a high school diploma or GED, be a U.S. citizen or have permanent residency, and be at least 17 years of age. You must also be committed to making a difference. We base our selection of Ally applicants on these core competencies. Where We Serve Public Allies operates in 21 communities in the U.S. CLICK HERE for a list of sites with deadlines. What You Get If selected, you are placed with a local nonprofit organization and participate in a full-time, paid apprenticeship for 10 months. In addition you will attend regular skill-building and leadership development sessions with your cohort of Allies. You will use your new leadership skills to help strengthen your placement as well as connect to the leaders and organizations in your community to help address real issues. In addition, you’re eligible to receive: a monthly stipend of $1,300 to $1,800 health care, child care, and student loan deferment an education award of $5,550 after completing the program to pay back student loans or pay for future education Deadlines Each Public Allies site manages their own recruitment process but use the same application.
