IM NOT AFRAID OF THE ICC, Uhuru tells Kenyans President Uhuru Kenyatta has once against left Kenyans speculating on whether he will attend or skip his trial at the International criminal Court. Uhuru came under pressure yesterday from leaders to declare that he will not attend the trial. Speaking during a burial at Kandara in Murang’a county the President said he is not afraid of the ICC. “I will hold the bull by the horns and ask Kenyans to persevere the kicks, Uhuru told the mourners. Former Laikipia MP Mwangi Kiunjuri and Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wairia had asked Uhuru not to attend the trial. Wairia told Uhuru that Kenyans are against his travelling to The Hague. “We are against the head of state facing the trial as (this) could be a scheme to frustrate (the) development agenda in the county governments,” he said. “This is not about any other person, but the sitting President. Allowing him to go to Hague poses a threat to the devolution which the President plays a key role. Wairia said they will not let Uhuru be intimidated and embarrassed in the ICC. However, Uhuru played down the issue and only smiled when the leaders asked him to announce in public that he will not attend the trial. He said matters at the ICC are softening up in reference to the case being postponed to February 2014. Uhuru said the matter will be sorted out but it will not divert his development agenda and the promises he made to Kenyans. Othaya MP Mary Wambui and Sabina Chege (Murang’a MP) termed the ICC trial a political calling for Uhuru to respect Kenyans wishes and not attend the hearings. “We shall mobilise all Kenyans to gather in Nairobi to block you from leaving the country to attend the hearing in The Hague,” said Wambui. Senate Deputy Speaker Kembi Gitura said the trial is a scheme by developed nations to colonise Kenya. “We must resist neo- colonialism at all levels, he said. Kiunjuri, who is the GNU leader, quoted Kikuyu proverbs calling on Kenyans to rise up and defend the President. He asked kenyans to pray 4 Him!
