IMMERSION: A Harvest West Minneapolis Devotional Surprise, Surprise by Jason Sanderson 1 John 3:13 ESV 13 Do not be surprised, brothers, that the world hates you. Thoughts: This seems so simple yet so yard to follow through with. Here it is right in the Word of God. We shouldn’t even be surprised. So why does it always shock us, and why do we get so upset over it? Worse yet, we’re playing with fire so to speak? Are you personally riding the fence this morning trying to win the approval of the world and of God? The reality is that we can never do both. The world will hate us when we stand for God. There will come moments when the world cannot understand where we are coming from because they don’t know God. The problem we face today is a Christian people tolerant of an ungodly world trying to win them over by compromising the standards set by God. When you look at all the hot topics of today and you take a stand on the word of God, you will be despised and hated. You will be called intolerant. You will be judged. You will be called names. And in that moment, rejoice. Romans 8:17 Encouragement: Are you compromising? Are you one of the tolerant? Stand for what is righteous and don’t back down, and when the world hates you for it. . . don’t be surprised.
