IMMIGRATION REFORM: THE HOPE FOR A BIPARTISAN - TopicsExpress

IMMIGRATION REFORM: THE HOPE FOR A BIPARTISAN SOLUTION Immigration Reform may be the only piece of legislation with enough momentum and political urgency to unite Democrats and Republicans to a bipartisan solution. The Senate has already demonstrated that this is possible when they passed their own bipartisan bill. Now, the fate of the legislation rests in the hands of the Republican House majority, who have said they would prefer to break up the bill into smaller pieces and pass them one at a time. History has shown this to be an ineffective strategy as many times, legislators, fighting for the issues they view as most important invest heavily in the first piece of legislation only to abandon later bills. The Senate will surely contest a piece-by-piece approach and have the proof of their own compromise to defend such a position. House Republicans can address Comprehensive Reform in a piece by piece manner, but can then combine them into one single bill. If they continue to suggest a piecemeal approach at this point, it will seem as if they are more interested in blocking a bill rather than helping it succeed. This is a political move that would paint the Republican Party in a very negative way and hurt their political image in the eyes of American citizens. Democrats and Republicans have the opportunity to come together and remind the American people why this government is the greatest in the world, and why many risk their lives for the chance to live here. PLEASE WATCH FOR MORE INFORMATION SOON.
