IMMORTALITY OF THE SOUL BY ALLAN WEKE A lot of people - TopicsExpress

IMMORTALITY OF THE SOUL BY ALLAN WEKE A lot of people think that the soul of man has a sense of immortality. This has brought a lot of controversies in the Christian world. We Luos in Kenya we believe according to our traditions that man goes from a physical state to a spiritual state at death. Man is elevated from a physical being to a spiritual person and has powers to dictate things under the sun e.g: naming of children e.t.c. What does the bible says upon the creation of man;the Lord God made man from the soil of the ground, breathed the breath of life into his nose and man became a living soul Genesis 2:7. Therefore, man was nothing but clay/soil until God gave life is when man became a living being. Lets get something here; man is clay + breath of life = living being. When man dies this is what happens; the dust/clay/soil shall return to the ground the spirit(the breath of life) shall return to God who gave it. See Ecclesiastes 12:7. In job 27:3 says as i have the breath of life within me, the spirit of God in me..... As long as the breath of live which is given by God is in you, then the power to live is there and when it is not there then their is nothing as Ecclesiastes 9:5 & 6 says that the living know that the will die and the dead know nothing, no reward and their memories are forgotten, everything perished and have no portion under the sun. For those who believe as the Luos and others that dead people see work in the interest of living is wrong and unbiblical. In this regard it is clear that man is mortal and perishable with time, man is there for a season and after that he is forgotten! But thank God for His creative power and He can recreate again for immortality. In 1st Corinthians 15:53 the bible says that in the day of resurrection man corruptible body will put on incorruptible and the mortal will put on immortality. As we look for the blessed hope of resurrection, we must know that man is a mortal being who is perishable and those who believe in Jesus will one day be with Him in Paradise where on death, suffering, pain, evil, sin exist. Be blessed. Amen.
