IMPORTANT: On Monday the experts in the class action lawsuit against the 6 juvenile prisons in Illinois in the Dept of Juvenile Justice filed their reports. The reports document dismal conditions with little education (about a day a week of school in a 2 month period in St Charles IYC last Spring), so little mental healthcare that it was not possible to review it, and an unacceptably high use of solitary confinement in lieu of programming (see the WBEZ account of the reports cited below). And yet, Cook County withdrew its juvenile Redeploy application and has not yet submitted another.....with state dollars available for alternatives to incarceration in these failed state juvenile prisons and with Cook constituting over 40% of the number of youth sent to juvenile prisons statewide, it is imperative for Cook to take full advantage of all possible alternatives to incarceration. peoriapublicradio.org/post/report-il-prison-youth-education-violation-inadequate
