IMPORTANT SECURITY UPDATE: TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED; THIRD REMAINS at LARGE Two men were arrested yesterday in separate incidents, with a third suspect still on the run, as Houston Police work to stop a string of burglaries in the neighborhood. HPD nabbed suspects on both sides of US 59 on Tuesday, with an early morning chase in Section 1 near Hillcroft & Mobud, while later in the day officers watching a suspect in Terrace 3, west of Gessner, picked up the other. One suspect remains at large. The SCA, S.E.A.L. Security, and residents are working with HPD to catch these guys. The first arrest occurred Tuesday morning when a resident in the 6300 block of Mobud heard a knock at the front door. She did not respond and the suspect reportedly walked around to the back door. Thinking the house was empty he kicked in the back door and surprised the occupant. The suspect fled while she called 911. Houston Police who had already responded to a report of two suspicious men on the next street were near by and pursued the two men on foot, catching one suspect who had stripped down to his underwear, but losing the other who fled into the Crown Garden Apartments across the street. The man was charged with felony evading arrest as the resident could not make a positive identification. In the second incident, Officers conducting surveillance in unmarked units, observed a possibly known suspect enter a home in the 7800 block of Pella, about 3:30 pm Tuesday afternoon. When he emerged from the burglary, HPD officers took him into custody. This suspect seems to fit the description of the serial burglar who has been targeting Terrace 2 over the last 6-8 weeks. HPD is investigating to see if he might be responsible for these crimes. CRIME WATCH CAMERAS Through S.E.A.L. Security (713-422-2770) we have placed a high resolution, multi-directional camera system in the Mary Bates & Carvel corridor. This system is being monitored by S.E.A.L. at their global operations desk (GSAT) in Spring Branch. This Osage-Tanglewilde-Hazen-Leader area has been plagued by a night time crook who has been forcing his way into homes through doors and windows to steal purses, wallets, and small electronics like phones. We’ve been able to identify this very small area where the crimes are occurring, and have deployed patrols and other resources to stop it. This camera system will provide our contractor with another set of eyes on the ground, giving GSAT operators the flexibility to monitor a high risk area while patrol units are nearby. We anticipate relocating this camera unit as needed to other sections of the neighborhood. YOUR HELP IS NEEDED We continue to receive comments (or read Facebook posts) about crimes, suspicious persons, and vehicles well after they have happened, sometimes days later. First, it is critical that all residents call HPD (via 911) if they observe any unknown person on their (or a neighbor’s) property after dark. The suspect has a pattern of casually walking down the street and then boldly walking up to the front door, or up the driveway to a back door to gain entry. Second, (unknown) individuals walking through the neighborhood late at night must be considered suspicious. HPD and S.E.A.L. (713-422-2770) have resources in the area that can respond in moments when given a tip. Let these professionals check out the situation and investigate anything out of the ordinary. Third, let us (or S.E.A.L.) know about any crimes (or attempts) you or a neighbor report to HPD, as we are working to provide Investigators with suspect descriptions, and other pertinent information that can assist with an identification and arrest. Residents have started to provide us with video footage and still pictures from their personal security systems. This is the type of valuable information that will help make a difference. SUBDIVISION REMAINS SAFE & SECURE It’s important to remember that even though we’ve had this recent string of burglaries, mostly at night in Terrace 1 & 2, overall crime remains at the usual, modest level. The official reports for June haven’t been published yet, but unofficial reports for July (last 30 days) reveal 23 reported burglaries, seventeen that were west of US 59, and only six on the east side (Sections 1,2,3). This is on par with the monthly averages.
