IN DEFENSE OF OUR SUPPORT FOR A TRUE LEADER OF THE MASSES, SENATOR BOLA AHMED TINUBU AND THE ALL PROGRESSIVE CONGRESS “Only a peaceful solution must be found to arrest the worsening stalemate and restore normalcy, an easy and poverty-stricken people are the easiest preys to political enslavement and economic exploitation, disease of all kinds follow in the wake of ignorance”- Chief Obafemi Awolowo. This insightful maxim of our late sage encapsulates the worried situation of Nigerias today. Beyond the sycophantic stance of the beneficiaries of the mismanagement of the affairs of this Country by the Federal Government who are seriously rooting for the continuity the government of ineptitude led by President Jonathan, culpable in the support of the impunity act of Mr President are the dubious religious bigots and ignorant supporters of the Peoples’ Democratic Party who not only takes swipes at the leaders of theopposition party but spread falsehood against the advocates of a change of government at the Federal Level. One of the beauties of democracy is freedom of expression with exemptions to fallacious fabrications and slander which are obvious in the propaganda of the ill-trained detractors of the clamor for restoration of laws and orderliness to our polity in Nigeria. The APC teams have shown expertise in the art of factual criticism and campaign for exemplary leadership through the victory of APC at the 2015 Presidential Election but the PDP teams have confronted APC with series of wicked fabrications and blackmails against the advocates of Change. General Muhammadu Buhari has been described asthe face of hope to solve numerous challenges confronting this Country including but not limited to poor economic policies, abject poverty, insecurity, lawlessness and corruption. Since the emergence of General Muhammadu Buhari as the Presidential flag bearer of APC for the FEBUHARI 14th, 2015 Presidential Election, the leader of the opposition politics in Nigeria Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been the focus of attacks by PDP apologists branding him with negative appellations in their bid to derail his leadership of the strugglefor the enthronement of the masses friendly government as shown by the manifesto of APC. Since the PDP apologist have not relent their assaults against lead supporters of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, it becomes imperative to examine the true political antecedents of Senator Bola Tinubu that commandeered our trust, respect and unalloyed support in the pursuance of good governance base on his positive records in leadership at different levels. To the doubters, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu was the lead voice in the National Assembly in 1993 against the annulment of the Presidential Election where Late Chief MKO Abiola was adjudged the winner. Between 1993 and 1998, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu was a frontline member and lead financier of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) that provided leadership for the Civil Society Organisations that confronted the Military Junta and struggled for the enthronement of Democracy in 1999. In recognition of his positive impact towards thesuccess of the transition programme in 1998, Senator Bola Tinubu received overwhelming support of the people of Lagos State that gave him mandate as their State Governor from 1999 to 2007. Between 2003 and 2007, when the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party manipulated the Governorship Election in their failed bid to make Nigeria a one-party Country, Lagos State Government suffered series of deprivations from the Federal Government but the tenacity of Governor Bola Tinubu aided his efficient performance and exemplary leadership in Lagos State. In spite of the damages suffered by the opposition party from the knocks of the ruling party, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not only rallied like minds to facilitate strong opposition to the misrule of the ruling party but made sure that the Governors under the platform of the political party he represents performed exemplarily to become role models in good governance in Nigeria. The outstanding performance on his successor, Governor Raji Fashola and other allies like Governors Adam Oshiomole, Kayode Fayemi and Rauf Aregbesola among others paved way for the political merger that brought about the emergence of the All Progressive Congress poised to become the ruling Political Party in Nigeria going by the massive support of the masses for the party at the forthcoming Presidential Election. The positive impact of the Lagos State Government on the good people of Lagos State from 1999 till date is an attestation of the good characters and outstanding posture of the Leader of Team Lagos Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu. His detractors always run to him for help and when the required assistance is in the interest of the masses he yielded but now that he is leading a struggle towards a system change in Nigeria, they resulted to name callings. One fascinating thing about Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu was his role during the trial of this Country when Late President Umar Yar’Adua was incapacitated in 2009. When the ruling party was playing hanky-panky against Vice President Goodluck Jonathan, it was Senator Bola Tinubu that rallied like minds across both political and ideological divides to enforce the National Assembly to invocate the doctrine of necessity that led to the emergence of Goodluck Jonathan as the Acting President and substantive President eventually. In the bid of President Jonathan to govern the Country again in 2011, when stability of the Country was at stake over the ambition of Mr President that collided with the agreement of North and South rotation of Presidency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu downplayed his support against the ruling party to pave way for the victory of President Jonathan in 2011. In all the above dealings in the interest of stability and progress of Nigeria, those blackmailing Tinubu today applauded him for rising above ethnic and religious politics but recognized him as a nationalist who always aligned with the interest of a common man. Like Senator Bola Tinubu, all reasonable people that supported President Jonathan in 2011 have regretted their actions due to the poor fate of this Country under this administration where law and order has not only collapsed but governance has become good riddance to bad rubbish as shown by the woes of this Country in terms of unprecedented poverty, insurgency, insecurity institutionalized corruption and economic exploitation of the masses. There is no perfection in humanity is a maxim that exonerate Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu of whatever shortcomings in either personal livings or leadership since his contribution to humanity and democratic values outweighs such errors. Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu has proved himself worthy of emulation in the struggle for good governance and grassroots development in Nigeria, his contributions to the advancement of democracy and liberation of the masses from poverty and insecurity is worthy of due support and collaborations. “Life must be understood backward but lived forward”, on the authority of this assertion, what else do we need as a prove of good conscience and positive stance of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu than his support for Professor Yemi Osinbajo and General Muhammadu Buhari, a combination reputed in integrity, credibility and productive services as attested by worthy and reputable Nigerians. In major assessment of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he is an asset to leadership of this Country and it is on that ground that we support him as a true leader of the masses. All Progressive Congress is undoubtedly a worthy platform for effective service delivery and the party is determined to provide worthy leadership for the Country. Nigerians are urged not to be carried away by the phantasmagoria of deceits from political turncoats in the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party bidding to further impoverish the masses, we urge you to disregard their blackmails and wicked machinations by throwing your weights behind the All Progressive Congress and facilitate the victory of General Muhammadu Buhari at the FEBUHARI 14th, 2015 Presidential Election and make Nigeria great again.
