IN HIS PRESENCE Time has borders horizons and limits Consequently results will almost always be abbreviated. I suppose everyone has had a special moment of spiritual significance. Some of my most memorable times have occurred in my quiet time. I call it lingering. I have recorded about a hundred of my favorite scriptures on a cassette with about thirty seconds of silence between each scripture. There are times when my prayer session has reached its limit as far as words are concerned. When that happens I just lay on the floor, turn on my linger tape and listen in complete silence. It is here where many hours will slip away in what seems like just moments. The only way I can explain it is I just seem to leave the earth and enter into the eternal time zone. In the presence of the Almighty, time doesn’t matter. Some of my best writing has come shortly after exiting this ‘no time zone’ experience. Time has borders, horizons and limits consequently its results will almost always be abbreviated. Fortunately, there are times when the eternal is imposed on the temporal and we perform in a way that just can’t be explained. It’s an anointing and not one of us would ever trade a moment of it for all the time in the world. Each of the five verses of this poem deal with a special attribute of God, forgiveness, mercy, grace, provision and power. Some poems are written in minutes but this was not one of them. For many weeks I thought constantly on this subject and finally, before I knew it, the poem was born. Along with the poem the Lord gave me a chorus which I have cherished and sung, in private, for many years. It goes like this: In His presence In His presence - that’s where I long to be In His presence, in His presence - I give Him all of me In His presence, In His presence - I have all I need In His presence, in His presence - is where I am set free IN YOUR PRESENCE Psalms 16:11 - …in thy presence is fullness of joy;… God’s forgiveness is greater than all our sin How do we explain it, where do we begin? He sees past the problems that we’re currently in And he forgives and forgives again and again God’s mercy is greater than we can explain He sees our wretchedness, he feels our pain Guilty is the only plea that makes any sense But mercy trumped justice – it’s our only defense God’s grace provides hope for the hopeless one It can’t be earned no matter how great the sum It can’t be learned, it offers no degree Grace is through faith it’s the only decree God’s provision will never fall short He says come boldly to my throne room court His answer is complete – nothing compares His riches in glory are ours to share God’s power is beyond what man can imagine Solutions can’t come by things we have fashioned There is no answer when we insist on having control God’s power provides victory over every foe , R.L.
