Results of Pre-season friendly Sunday 15th September Gorey I 0 Bray I 6 Bray too strong for understrength Gorey Gorey began their 2013-2014 season against a very skilful, superior Bray outfit in East Glendalough on Sunday morning last. After a shaky start Gorey started to fight their way into the game but Bray were always the stronger outfit. Bray scored early in the half and really moved the ball around the pitch for the remainder of the half but failed to convert any of their chances until close to half time. Two further well taken goals gave Bray a comfortable lead. Gorey came out after half time and played much better hockey. On a number of occasions Gorey did manage to counter attack with menace and if they were more clinical with their passes could have scored one or two goals themselves. As the game began to open up Bray created a good few chances and as Gorey legs began to tier they were able to convert a further three chances to leave the final score at 6 nil to the visitors. The Bray outfit will be contenders for the Division 3 title in Leinster this season and hopefully will be able to regain their spot in Division 2 again next season. The stands out performers on the day for Bray were Serena Rush who was superb and scored an impressive four goals. Katie Burgess and Cheryl O Toole were excellent at the back. Gorey never gave up and Laura O Leary, Megan Roark Shannon and the debuting Dearbhla Casey all impressed. Only three weeks left to the league opener against a strong Carlow outfit away on Sunday 6th of October and with plenty of training between now and the then Gorey will hopefully have a good chance at taking their first three points of the season, but the trip to Carlow has always been a very tough hard fought encounter and Gorey haven’t won there since 2011 when they snuck a victory late on. Gorey II will also begin their league campaign on the same day with a trip to play Kilkenny II. Let’s see all the Gorey players back out on the pitch over the next week. Training continues in East Glendalough School 8pm on Thursday nights and in Courtown Hibs Football Club 8pm on a Friday night. See you all there; remember new players are always welcome even retired internationals.
