INDIAN ARMY RESCUED 75000 PEOPLE FROM J&K On the Eleventh day of the rescue operation ‘Operation Megh Rahat’ the Army has intensified its rescue efforts. While more than 220 columns remain dedicated for the rescue efforts the number of people rescued by the Army has increased to 75,000 and the total figure is over one lakh including NDRF. The Army Medical authorities have provided medical help to the affected people with about 96 medical teams working round the clock. The Army Doctors have provided medical aid to more than 35000 people of the State. More than 8 Tones of medicines including pediatric medicine, IV fluids and other stores have been inducted. The Army is also in the process to inducting a Field Hospital in Srinagar, which will further boost the medical assistance to the flood affected people. Total of 40 Tones food items and more than 1.10 Lakh liters Tones of bottled water has been distributed to the people. In addition large number of blankets, Tents, utensils and clothing items have also been distributed so far. The Aviation wing of the Army has employed about 30 Helicopters for the rescue operations. The Army with its concerted efforts has also provided safe shelter to more than 2500 people and food to about more than 50000 people. The Army Engineers have employed more than 200 BAUTS and about 160 OBMs in the rescue operations. Specialised Army Engineer and Communication detachments and equipment are being air lifted from Jammu, Udhampur and other locations of the country to facilitate restoration of water supply, telecommunication and bridge construction in the valley. In view of blockage of road at Ramsu more than 10000 people have been transhipped from Banihal and other areas to Udhampur and Jammu. Army has created transit facilities at Ramsu and Ramban where food, medical and other essential facilities are being provided to the people
