INDIAN PRIME MINISTER ‘S GIFT TO THE PRIME MINISTER OF JAPAN Dear facebook friends, I read in the newspaper that the Prime Minister of India gave two books on Swami Vivekananda and a Buddhist translation of the Bhagwad Gita to the Prime Minister of Japan. Personally, I have a high regard for Swami Vivekananda. But he was a Hindu leader and that was quite in order. I have high regard for him as a Hindu leader. I have read the Bhagwad Gita in Sanskrit and there are certain points in it that I appreciate very much. But the Bhagwad Gita is a Hindu text. For Mr. Narendra Modi to gift these books as a Hindu is quite in order. But is it wise and appropriate to have given these Hindu texts as the Prime Minister of India, which is a secular democracy ? In a secular Democracy, the Prime Minister should not be seen as representing only one religion. What do you think ?
