INJM members dropped into Funakoshi today for a short visit. Nakasato-San was bringing in a big harvest of eels, and I asked him how things were going. Im doing fine, but some are still not doing so well he said. I was nonetheless surprised by what I saw- for when I was last here almost 2 years ago there were hardly any fishing boats, and now that small bay is full of them. But the ground behind, where the the former village and school once stood, is now empty. In the higher ground beyond new housing is being built. It seemed to me that the Funakoshi people who stayed to rebuild their village are really making a go of it.
